About Mini Lops

Known originally as the Klein Widder, this breed was spotted in the early 1970's at a show in Essen, Germany. Although these rabbits were larger and longer than our Mini Lops today, they were still very rare at the time and it was only through dedicated effort of a few breeders after importation to the USA that the breed we know today was developed. In an effort to make the Lops more appealing, their name was changed in 1974 from Klein Widder to Mini Lop and in 1980, the breed was officially accepted by the American Rabbit Breeders Association.

Described as the Monarch of the Fancy, Mini Lops are one of the smaller non-dwarf breeds, averaging between 4.5-6.5 pounds. They can be identified by their distinctive size, lop ears and crown, wide head shape, and thick bone. They have round bodies with good depth and come in a wide range of lovely colors. Mini Lops are reputed to be one of the sweeter rabbit breeds in their size range- when raised properly they are pleasant to interact with, both friendly and calm. This breed, like most rabbits, would benefit from frequent exercise and a balanced diet. They are a wonderful family addition and I am so pleased to finally be able to work with this adorable breed.

Mini Lop Bucks

Hope's Hulk- Hold for Ashley

Registered Smoke Pearl Buck
DOB: July 07, 2009
Sire: DeSurra's Gabriel (Registered Grand Champion, 15 Legs, Smoke Pearl Chinchilla) X Dam: Posey's Mae (Registered Grand Champion, 8 Legs, Ruby-eyed White)
Weight: 6.0

Hulk arrived after the ARBA national convention in Minnesota all the way from Washington state! His sire Gabriel has 15 grand champion legs including 3 BIS's and he came in 4th place in his class at the national convention in 2009. His dam is also a special doe with 8 grand champion legs and she was the BOV in the youth Mini Lop Nationals in 2009. Even after almost two weeks in travel and being a bit out of condition as a result, he consistently placed in the top ten in large classes including 3rd of 20 in show B by judge Wade Burkhalter at the Decatur RBA show. Please excuse his coat as he is molting, but I wanted to get some new pictures up of him- I will update them again later. A special thanks to Erik Nunamaker for our handsome and affectionate herdsire.

Hoppin's Twister

Registered Chocolate Chinchilla Buck
DOB: May 6, 2010
Sire: Hoppin's Brad (Chocolate Chinchilla) X Dam: Hoppin's Nicole (Broken Chocolate)
Weight: 6.08

Twister has had quite a life already! He was born in Oklahoma, was switched in transit by mistake during the transport, then spent a brief time in Tennessee, and now lives in Georgia with us. He is a wonderful big buck with a great temperament, a beautiful coat, and excellent width. Although he is a touch long in the shoulders and could use a bit more depth, he has a solid hindquarter, a nice head/crown, and is also one of my favorite colors. I am thrilled to have a chunk of a chocolate herdsire and would like to thank Qadoshyah at Hoppin' Herd of Hares for this wonderful boy.

Mini Lop Does

Lunar Lapin's Serenity

Registered Blue Silver-tipped Steel Doe
DOB: May 2, 2010
Sire: Nora's Lord Aragorn (Black Chinchilla) X Dam: Nora's Sealia (Registered, 2 Legs, Seal)
Weight: 4.14

I love this doe. Serenity is a beautiful, sweet, and WIDE doe. She has nice depth, a full hindquarter, and a pretty head. She has nice short shoulders and I placed consistently in the top ten on the show tables. Her personality is, well, serene- hence her name. I have yet to find something to really bother her. She is another doe that is an excellent mother- this is a wonderful trait we have found with the breed. I would like to thank Alice at Lunar Lapins for this chunk of a doe.

Lunar Lapin's Sundae- Available For Sale

Broken Seal Doe
DOB: May 3, 2010
Sire: Starflite's Spirit (Registered, 23 Legs, Chestnut Agouti) X Dam: Petersen's Jessica (4 Legs, Broken Black Silver-tipped Steel)
Weight: 5.13

Sundae is so cute and has a delightful personality- she has me completely charmed. I let her play quite frequently in the den and she is just a riot with the silly things she comes up with. Aside from her adorable character, she has a nice head, a nice shoulder length, and decent width. I would like to see a bit more depth and fullness to her hindquarters, but she is still very young so I am curious to see how she will mature. I would like to thank Alice at Lunar Lapins for this sweetie pie doe.

Hoppin's Lonesome Dove

Registered Lilac Doe
DOB: June 27, 2010
Sire: Hoppin's Brad (Chocolate Chinchilla) X Dam: Hoppin's Kadence (Broken Chestnut Agouti)
Weight: 5.13

Dove is a sweetheart doe that came all the way from Oklahoma via the National Convention in Minnesota. Although she was very young at nationals, the judge remarked that she had good shoulders and really just needed age and balance. A few weeks later at the Decatur RBA she consistently placed in the top five of larger classes, including two 3rd's out of 14 with judge Bill Rice and judge Wade Burkhalter. We would like to see more depth on her, but are excited to see what maturity will bring and are very happy with our lilac addition from Hoppin' Herd of Hares.
