About

Thank you for visiting my website! Hendricks' Hearth is a small one-woman operation that began several years ago as a result of my interest in self-sustainability. It started with a small garden plot and expanded to larger garden and flower beds, cold-process soap, and home-raised bunnies. I am a member of The American Rabbit Breeders Association, The Lop Rabbit Club of America, The Mini Lop Rabbit Club of America, The American Harlequin Rabbit Club, and The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.

In the past I have worked with several breeds including English Angoras, Dutch, English Lops, Mini Lops (which we still have in limited numbers), and a Velveteen Lop Project as well, but our focus is the Harlequin breed. I started working with Harlies in Summer of 2010 and have had plenty of ups and downs since then. They are wonderful though and I am glad I stuck with them.

Our rabbits are raised in a clean environment. They have high-quality pellets, grass hay or timothy hay cubes, and fresh water available every day. Their diet is supplemented with organic greens from the garden, rolled oats, and small pieces of seasonal fresh fruit. They have access to toys such as pinecones, cardboard tubes, etc., and have plenty of exercise time outside of their cages. Mini Lops and Harlequins are both known for their friendliness and tolerance- we find them to be wonderful family breeds.

Aside from rabbits, I enjoy gardening, cooking, and baking, so of course much of my harvest goes straight to the kitchen to be incorporated into one dish or another. I love horse-back riding whenever possible and fresh air, but also like to curl up with a good book, watch movies, exercise, and play online games. I hope to one day have a larger property with plenty of acreage for the peace and quiet as much as for anything else.

I am happily married to a wonderful husband and we share our home with three silly dogs. I am currently attending school full-time in an accelerated nursing program. It is very rigorous and I have had to set many of my interests on the shelf for the time being. I hope to be able to travel more after I receive my RN license and resume some of my favorite hobbies. Below is a picture of me with my former Clydesdale/Foundation Drum Horse, who now resides with a wonderful family in North Carolina:
